10/18 – SEI Training Grant Application Released

We are pleased to announce that the Smart Energy Initiative’s application for funding for ongoing incumbent worker training has been approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry!

Retroactive to October 1st, these funds will be used to reimburse energy companies who train their existing workforce in the fields of energy efficiency, geothermal, solar PV, and compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles.

7/8 – Pennsylvania DEP’s Small Business Advantage Grant Opens

Monday, July 8th 2013

Businesses can apply for 50-percent matching funds of up to $9,500 to adopt or acquire energy-efficient or pollution-prevention equipment or procedures.

Applicants must be a for-profit corporation, limited liability corporation, partnership, sole proprietorship or other legal entity with 100 or fewer full-time employees. The grant-supported project must be located in Pennsylvania, be owned by the applicant and save the business at least 25 percent plus $500 in annual energy consumption or in pollution handling or prevention related expenses.

Applicants may be manufacturers, retailers, service providers, mining operators or agricultural businesses. Eligible projects include HVAC and boiler upgrades, high-efficiency lighting, solvent recovery systems, waste recycling systems and auxiliary power units deployed as anti-idling technology for trucks.

The application deadline is Sept. 6. Eligible applications will be approved on a first-come, first-served basis from July 8 through Sept. 6 or until funds are exhausted, whichever comes first. Funding is eligible for those costs incurred between July 8, 2013and June 30, 2014.

Hometown-GreenHometown Green, LLC located in Chester, PA is looking a Sustainable Energy Crew Technician!

The goal of our work is to reduce non-renewable energy use, carbon footprint, and utility bills in homes. We make homes more comfortable, livable, planet friendly, and energy efficient, through insulating, air-sealing, ducting, ventilating, & exterior drainage work.  Crews install insulation, windows, doors, solar attic fans, hatch units, solar heating, solar hot water, solar PV, solar pool heating.

Our field work is physical outside work and/or work in basements and attics and may have an office, and vehicle and equipment care components.  Office duties may include work with internet, Excel and MS Word.  Driving duties and vehicle maintenance duties may be assigned.

Requirements:

  • 5 yr Penn DOT check
  • High school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Show up on time prepared to work.
  • Ability to drive stick.
  • Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 75 lbs.
  • General Computer Knowledge is Essential (Email, Word, Excel).
  • Desire to be part of a team, willingness to step in where needed.
  • Follow company policies, perform reliably and work safely
  • Advanced knowledge of materials, tools, building layout, and scheduling
  • An ability to delegate yet to lead by doing
  • Ability to cheerfully relate with the customers who pay us.
  • Attention to detail is a must
  • Personal and professional patience with process
  • A realistic outlook on the difficulty of this work
  • Valid Driver License and an ability to care for a vehicle
  • Work a Mon – Fri schedule with flexibility to work some weekend hours.

SEI has scheduled 2012’s Smart Energy Tour for Saturday, April 21st. The Smart Energy Tour, or SET, is SEI’s signature youth event providing high school students with exposure to the technology and careers in energy efficiency, solar, geothermal, bio fuels and wind energy.
